Evolution designed our brains so that any new challenge, opportunity, or desire triggers some degree of fear. Our fight or flight response sets off alarm bells when we want to make a departure from usual and safe routines. While our brains are programmed to resist change, we can rewire our nervous system by taking small steps.
Choose steps so small that you can’t fail. That might mean:
- Asking small questions to dispel fear and inspire creativity
- Thinking small thoughts develop new skills and habits
- Solving small problems even when your face with an overwhelming crisis
- Giving small rewards to yourself or others
- Recognizing the small but crucial moments that everyone else ignores
- Cultivating awareness of small moments
Instead of looking for radical innovative change, seek small, comfortable steps toward improvement and change.
